Thousand Trails, Conroe - Conroe, Texas
5 Stars  This place was Amazing visited Mar 22, 2007
After six days at Castaways we moved just a few miles to the Thousand Trails Preserve at Conroe. It was a Thursday and the park was full. We were very blessed to get a good site in the upper E section with a view of the lake. The sites are angled and spaced for lots of privacy. We also backed up to the cabins, which made it nice because they are nice looking and occupied mostly on weekends. Our friends came the following Sunday (a day early to miss some threatening weather) and we played Eighty (a Texas domino game) twice a day every day. The City of Conroe is just close enough and just the right size to have everything we need. We enjoy brunch at Ryan’s and church at April Sound. In addition there is a good Christian radio station that comes in well.

Castaways RV Park - Willis, Texas
3 Stars  This place was Average visited Mar 16, 2007
This park was quite a disappointment. We are Western Horizon members and pay maintenance fees supposedly for this park. We arrive and find that Western Horizon sold the park we bought into and have some sort of agreement to allow their members to stay at Castaways, for a fee. Western Horizon parks are supposed to be free to members, but because this was not a WH park we had to pay $5 a night. The sites and roads are not well maintained. It’s almost impossible to back into a site without dropping into a culvert. Many of the RVs have stilts in the rear to level their rigs because the ground drops away so drastically. They do have a boat dock and water front area, but the dock is partially under water and the boat attached to it is sinking.

Texas Pelican RV Park - Vinton, Louisiana
1 Stars  This place was Awful visited Mar 15, 2007
The Texas Pelican Complex sounds like a fun place to stop when you read the Passport America description. Actually it’s one of those Roadhouse Casinos with a few RV parking places in the back, next to I-10 in Louisiana.. There is a clubhouse of sorts with a laundry that looks well maintained. The phone is no longer answered, there are no signs showing that there is an RV park, how to get into the RV area or where to pay. We finally found a sign inside the Washateria that said if you want to pay (apparently its optional) put the money in an envelope and throw the envelope far into the office. The traffic noise (right next to I-10) was bad but when the train came through in the middle of the night it was REALLY loud. The engineer was very conscientious. He blew that whistle for at least a couple of miles.

Styx River Resort - Robertsdale, Alabama
4 Stars  This place was Great visited Mar 13, 2007
Styx River is a Coast to Coast Park just over the Florida line in Alabama. The park has lots of shade however the trees make it a little hairy getting the rig in. They seem to have all the amenities including indoor and outdoor pools and free WiFi. The park is right on the river and there is a trail down to a picnic area by the river.

Ecofina River Resort - Perry, Florida
2 Stars  This place was Poor visited Mar 22, 2007
Ecofina River Resort might be okay if you were looking for a very laid back place with no rules. When we arrived (on a Monday) we found that the store is closed on Mondays. There was no directions for self registration and since we had called for a reservation we just took the first site we saw. We were almost set up when a couple of women came along and insisted that they had been assigned that site. With no management we had no one to go to. We also had no one to go to when some people a few spaces away set up their boom box outside and started playing country and western loud enough to be heard a mile away. That went on for a couple of hours. On the other hand, the place is fairly well kept and next to a state park with hiking trails. There may have been other amenities but we never found out about them.
